When Love Isn't Simple

Is it still cheating… if you’re already in love?

Romance novels love a clean choice:

Two people. One heart. A clear “right” answer waiting at the end.

But real relationships aren’t always that simple.

What happens when emotional connection and physical desire pull you in different directions?

What happens when you don’t want to lose either?

In many love triangles, the lines are clearly drawn.

One person is safe. The other is exciting.

One is “right.” The other is “wrong.”

And if someone crosses a line — if they betray trust — the story often makes that judgment for us. The cheater becomes the villain. The moral center holds.

But real life isn’t always that tidy.

Feelings don’t arrive one at a time.

They don’t wait their turn.

And they don’t always respect the rules we wish they would follow.

When I began writing Your Lips Tonight, I wanted to explore that messier space.

A place where attraction isn’t singular.

Where someone can be drawn to one person emotionally — intellectually — feeling understood, seen, safe…

…and at the same time feel an undeniable pull toward someone else.

Something more immediate. More physical. More dangerous.

Not better. Not worse.

Just… different.

Elena finds herself caught between those two forces.

And the story doesn’t ask the reader to judge her from a distance.

It asks something more uncomfortable:

What would you do, if you were her?

She knows the risks.

She understands the consequences.

She feels guilt. She questions herself. She hesitates.

And yet… she continues.

Not because she’s careless.

But because what she’s experiencing feels rare. Intoxicating. Worth holding onto, even when it complicates everything else.

There’s an irony at the heart of her journey.

The relationship she risks so much for isn’t built on certainty.

It isn’t even exclusive.

And that raises a question she can’t quite escape:

If no one belongs to anyone… what does betrayal really mean?

Stories about infidelity often focus on pain — the shock, the heartbreak, the loss.

And those emotions are real. Deeply real.

But there’s another side that’s harder to talk about.

The pull that leads someone there in the first place.

The rationalizations. The contradictions. The way desire and emotion can blur together until right and wrong feel less like absolutes and more like shifting lines.

But beneath all of that, it’s a story about someone trying to make sense of her own heart in a situation where nothing feels simple anymore.

you don’t choose right away.

You linger.

You explore.
